It’s becoming more and more common that people with a blog, also do YouTube videos. It makes sense, really, it’s a great way to promote your blog in a different media, and grow your audience even more. In the same way, it’s also become very common for YouTubers to have a blog to promote their videos on, for much the same reasons. In this post, I’ll go through the best WordPress YouTube/Video blogging themes!
The most common blogging platform, is without a doubt WordPress. WordPress is always free, no matter if you use your blog on the wordpress.com site, or if you install the WordPress CMS (content management system) on your own self-hosted site.
One of the main reasons that WordPress has become so popular as a blogging platform, is its wealth, and ease of using, of themes, and plugins. Now, there are a TON of great, free wordpress themes out there, but in this post, I want to show you ones that cater specifically to people who produce videos, and can present your videos in a fantastic manner.
Obviously, if you have a great YouTube channel, chances are that YouTube is your main platform, and you don’t want to spend a ton of time creating blog posts – you want your blog to promote your videos, not the other way around. If you’re curious, NovelConcept is currently running a modified version of the Karma theme, and will be switching to the Sirens theme pretty soon.
With this in mind, I’ve done some digging on digging on ThemeForest, a site where I’ve purchased the majority of my WordPress themes over the years (and a part of the entire Envato network, where I also sell things like Photoshop Actions, and found what I consider the best themes for a blog, if you’re primarily running your blog to promote your YouTube channel.
Footage is a WordPress theme produced by ThemeProvince, who also sells 3 other themes, and it has sold over 500 times so far.
It’s a beautiful full-screen site, with a full-screen video playing in the background. Absolutely perfect, for things like your Channel Trailer!
Description: “With Footage as your website your viewer will never get bored and leave. This theme is a unique way to display your photography and supports all types of photo orientation so your photos will not get cutoff. If you are a photo/videographer and need a fresh new look for your website then this is the theme for you. And best of all Footage is AJAX enabled so your users will only have to reload when posting a comment. Please note you cannot use any page as a homepage, the portfolio acts as a homepage.”
It runs in at $45, and supports 2 skins, unlimited colour options, unbranded, supports both YouTube and Vimeo, has easy gallery management, automatic post thumbnails, and a whole lot more. Certainly a theme worth checking out!

Coming in at number 5, we have “Premiere” by WooThemes. WooThemes are now for making rock-solid… everything, really. I run both the ecommerce part, as well as lesson/course part, of this site through various Woo plugins!
Premiere is a simple and slick video-centric WordPress theme. You have slider options at the top, where you can add in your videos, and the entire theme is based around the concept of video posts. Also very cool, is it’s automatic “latest”, “most popular” posts, right on the front page, which is very reminiscent of how a YouTube channel works!
Description: “Premiere is a powerful video-based theme that is custom post driven, separating your video posts from your blog content. With a custom single video page template with great social sharing links, the option for your site visitors to recommend videos and a featured home page slider this theme helps videographers, and movie fans alike – with great custom-ability.”
Premiere costs $55, and has a ton of great custom features, like the video slider, custom homepage, custom typography, custom widgets, recommend a video-feature, and more. Definitely a solid contender in this list!

As the name suggests, “The Producer” is a WordPress theme aimed at video and film producers. While it’s not the best theme at pushing your videos to the front page, what it does instead of presenting your videos in an incredibly professional manner. If you produce high-quality videos in a feature film-like manner for your channel, this is definitely the theme you’re looking for.
Description: “The Producer is a film focused WordPress theme for studios and production companies. It was entirely designed around showcasing videos. Features a unique “panel” effect when scrolling as well as a traditional credit roll effect.”
It’ll cost you $45, and it’s no surprise that it’s sold over 800 copies so far. It has the option to include video on the first page, comes in two different variants, comes with a custom admin panel, and various other small features.

Solar is what it says on the can: a video theme. When you go to the homepage, it’s like looking at a giant video playlist, not too far off from the playlists you’ll find on YouTube. While it doesn’t have the prettiest design in the world, it makes up for it in straight-forwardness, and it doesn’t mess around with presenting what you want presented: your YouTube videos.
Description: “Show off your work with this easy-to-customize and fully featured WordPress Theme. When purchasing this theme, you will receive a detailed help file along with additional features like Video Support and Responsive Layout.
The included home page slider is powered by RoyalSlider. The RoyalSlider is packed with a ton of features and is easy to customize.”
Solar costs $45, and has just under 200 sales as of writing this. It’s features include responsive layout, retina support (always good for future-proofing sites), video documentation, translation-ready, and, of course, a ton of support for video.

Crashing in at number 2 (and almost number 1!), let’s just say it like it is: SocialPlay is GORGEOUS! When you are presented with a site, it’s like a super-sleek version of Pinterest, but for videos, and it looks cooler. It’s clear that the focus of this theme is for video sharing, and social media, and it pulls it off absolutely wonderfully.
Description: “With crafty design and magnificent look, this super flexible and fully responsive WP theme introduces a unique trend for your media syncing/sharing website. If you don’t want to upload miscellaneous audio and video files directly to your own website, it is just fine! Simply, upload media files on any of the gigantic media sites, viz. YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Blip.tv, uStream, MetaCafe and SoundCloud and play the same on your own website!
The management of video channels, audio albums, user profiles and video playlists has been made as simple and seamless as possible. Nicely formatted source code and the inclusion of detailed PSD files enable you customize or modify the theme quite easily and to a great extant. Multi-level Dropdown Menu and custom graphics contribute to its beauty and catchiness. Most importantly, SocialPlay is search engine optimized to earn your website the highest possible ranking.”
SocialPlay costs $45, and has been sold over 200 times so far! Some of the key features include syncing your videos directly from Youtube, Vimeo, DailyMotion and more! Facebook login support, the ability to turn Responsiveness on and off (100% responsive), the Revolution Slider plugin is included in the theme, and the ability of registered users to upload videos and playlists!
You can buy it here.
On number one (but only barely, after SocialPlay) is deTube. While it’s not quite as beautiful to look at, as SocialPlay, it does a fantastic job at presenting your YouTube videos on your site. In fact, it does hardly anything else. This is a theme specialized in video, and it shows! On the homepage, you are presented with a giant video, an integrated playlist, a short about section, aaand… more videos!
Description: “deTube is a Professional Responsive Video WordPress Theme designed for video site, video blog video Portal. This theme will help you get a professional video site up and running quickly, it is inspired by the popular websites: YouTube, Vimeo and Dribbble. No modest to say that it is the most powerful video WordPress theme so far.”
deTube also costs $45, and has in the last year sold over 3300 copies!! It’s been continually updated over the last year with new features, such as responsive layouts and bug fixes. Some of the key features of the theme include a modular homepage, automatic video thumbnails, the ability to autoplay your videos, different ways to embed your videos, presenting videos by categories, self-hosting, and a ton more!

Apart from the 6 themes here, which are all outstanding for a video blog, there’s also some great plugins out there for WordPress, that can really enhance ANY type of blog to help promote your videos and youtube channel. Here are 3 great WordPress plugins that will help you do just that, in no particular order.
“Is an unordered list of YouTube links converted into a video playlist. The php script makes the youtube list on a fly and uses the latest Gdata Api v2. You can choose to make a video playlist with keywords, userchannel or a regular youtube playlist. There are many options which can be set in the php script and in the jQuery function. Includes the new html5 youtube player option. This is the only youtube script available with search engine optimalisation (SEO) Almost drag and drop.
A great future is that you will only have to set the widht of the player and the height settings will be auto adjust.
So no more messing with advanced css settings !”
“Combine all of your social network interactions into one single network stream or create a single feed for multiple social network profiles. Display using a filterable jQuery isotope powered Social Network Wall or a rotating feed list!

“With SocialBox you get an absolutely easy to use WordPress Plugin which enables you to add a sleek social widget to your WordPress site or blog. It supports several social networks and displays the current numbers of Facebook Page Likes, Twitter, Dribbble, Forrst and Digg Followers and YouTube and Vimeo Channel Subscriptions. You can enter default values which will be shown as a fallback if the related API is not reachable.”
So, with all that said and done, best of luck with your (new) video blog! If you didn’t find what you were looking for in the above links, I highly recommend going to ThemeForest and checking it out – there is a CRAZY amount of WordPress themes available on the site, and they have a very high standard for what they allow people to sell there. I’ve been using themes from there for years, and have always been very happy with my purchases.
If you’re looking to upgrade your blog, CodeCanyon has a ton of great WordPress plugins available, that are just as high quality as the themes on Themeforest.
Full disclosure: the links above contain affiliate links. That means that if buy anything from those links, I get a small percentage of the sale. Apart from that, I am in no way directly affiliated with any of the marketplace authors, or Envato themselves.
